    Right Handed Guitars FAQs

Is right handed the normal type of guitar?
Right handed guitars are the standard type of guitar that most guitarists (even those who are left handed when writing) will play. They are designed to be comfortable to play and to use the controls while playing in the standard right-handed orientation, with t
he left hand fretting notes on the neck, while the right hand picks or strums the strings down by the body.

There is no 'normal' or 'better' way to choose. Some people prefer to use their dominant hand for the more intricate work of fretting, while some prefer to use their dominant hand to hold down the rhythm of picking and strumming. The best advice is to try both and see which suits you best.

If I'm right handed, do I have to play a right handed guitar?
No, you don't. In fact, some right handers play left handed guitars - though this is considerably rarer than the other way around. It's always worth trying out playing right handed to begin with, as you will have more choice of guitars down the road if you learn that way. Playing guitar is a two-handed skill, so you will need to train both hands to perform very dextrous movements either way.
