Is Your Guitar Due A Service?
At Rimmers Music we offer a fantastic and professional restring service.
For just £20 and the price of strings, you can have your guitar looking like new again!
We will remove and dispose of the old strings, clean the frets so they shine once more, and even treat the neck to some Lemon Oil fretboard cleaner (on Rosewood necks). We then get the new strings on and tune it up to tension, and finish off by giving the guitar a good polishing. Your guitar will look like it’s just come fresh from the factory!
So why is it so important to keep your guitar serviced and cleaned?
Well, old or dead strings lose their ‘brightness’ after a while of heavy use. When you play you sweat, and all sorts of nastiness can become engrained in the strings. They lose the shine, and the bright tone, and sometimes they will not hold pitch. You’d want your guitar to be the best it can be!

You can slow the decay of strings with Fast Fret (available in all our stores), a string lubricant that’s easy to apply that will extend the life and brightness of your strings, but it’s important to change your strings every couple of months or so, depending on how often you play.
It goes without saying that you’d want your guitar to sound it’s best, so not only can we do restrings and small repairs, we can also do professional grade set ups.
You can have your guitar or bass set up how you like it, and we’ll go over it with a fine tooth comb!
We will check the intonation to make sure it holds pitch all the way up the fretboard, keep an eye on the neck, and set the action (the space between your fretboard and strings). Most people prefer a low action, as it’s easier to fret the notes, but everyone has their own preference. It’s always worth chatting with our staff in store to ensure you get your guitar set up exactly how you like it!
All of our staff are knowledgeable in restrings and setups, and there’s a few of us that absolutely love working on and cleaning old instruments, as it’s satisfying work!
We look forward to seeing you soon, if it’s been a while, your guitar definitely needs a good service!
