How Do I Choose Between Digital Or Acoustic Drum Kit?

In my experience, it completely depends on what you specifically want from your drums and your own personal preference.

I myself am lucky enough to have both and sometimes spend more time picking which to play than actually playing.

Firstly, I absolutely adore my acoustic drum kit. Still using my first drum kit bought for me from Rimmers Music, a beautiful Berkeley shell, Remo skins, Planet Z cymbals and a Stagg double bass pedal. Not only does this kit look the part, it sounds incredible. The give and response of the skins and cymbals are incomparable. Now as intelligent as new electric drum kits go, it will never completely be the same as an acoustic drum kit, which isn’t always a bad point.

The best feature of an electric kit for me personally is to be able to have an amazing drum sound, without the volume of an acoustic. With moving in and out of small flats with thin walls, it wasn’t an option for me to have my acoustic kit set up for practice, so getting an electric saved me from having to give up my passion.

The Alesis electric drum kit I have (DM Lite) gets used 10 times more than my acoustic due to it being so convenient. The pads are super responsive and the ability to input my music to play out of headphones as well as the kit itself means I can practice and play whenever I want without waking the neighbourhood. It is lightweight and compact when folded away so I don’t get in trouble for cluttering up the room when I’m not playing!

So in summary, as stated at the beginning, preference between electric and acoustic is completely down to individual taste and needs, so if it is an option for you, get both!
