Drumming With No Experience…

Ever fancied playing the drums then quickly dismissed the notion of thinking “I have no sense of rhythm”, I can’t separate what my feet and hands want to do”? Well until recently I was of the same opinion. After struggling to get coordination for months the drum tutor at our store’s music school told me he’d teach me some basics. Soon enough came the dreaded moment. Phil, our drum tutor, sat me down at a kit. I told him “it wasn’t going to happen” but sure enough with his guidance only fifteen minutes later I was playing a couple of basic beats, he even showed me a basic fill to practice. To say the least I was amazed and more so I absolutely loved playing. The spark had been generated leading to a burning desire to continue playing. Thanks to the excellent tuition from Phil I was set on a new path.
Now more than ever I’ve come to appreciate the difference in the various digital kits we’ve had and have in store. In particular, mesh heads make a huge difference; they are far more responsive, real feeling and pleasant on the ol’ joints. There are various aspects that lead to a better and more realistic playing experience, things such as; dynamic response, a real kick and hi-hat pedal, zonal sample triggering. Of course the main advantages of going digital are; the option to use headphones (great for parents, partners and neighbours), volume control, they tend to be more compact so take up less space and last of all but my favourite advantage, they have loads of sounds/kits built-in, the higher end ones allowing you to compile your own kit. Of course, if you’ve got the space and the set up then it’s hard to beat an acoustic kit, but the digital kits you can now find are a fantastic alternative.
My venture into drumming has only begun, if you’re even the slightest bit curious to try then get yourself into one of our stores and we’ll find the right kit for you and book you in for some lessons, you’ll be glad you did.
