History of Gibson Guitars

Gibson Guitars have become a well-known household name, so you no doubt already know who they are due to their huge status in the music industry. Gibson are a number one choice for many iconic legends, such as Eric Clapton, Slash, Bob Marley, Billie Joe Armstrong and many more famous names.

So, what about the history of Gibson, how did they get to where they are now?

Gibson was founded by Orville Gibson, who founded the company in 1902 creating arch top guitars by constructing the same type of carved, arched top used on violins. By 1930, flat top acoustic guitars became available.

Gibson are sold under a vairety of brand names and also stock one of the most iconic guitars in the world, the Gibson Les Paul. Gibson are a collectors item, and they are at the forefront of innovation in acoustic guitars, especially in the big band era of the 1930’s.

In 1936, Gibson launched their electric spanish style guitar, the ES-150 a very successful model.

Following on from this, the legendary Les Paul had its beginnings in 1952 when Gibson collaborated with the guitarist himself, this guitar is known worldwide and has become an iconic Gibson guitar.
