Gretsch Guitars

Over the span of four generations, the Gretsch Company developed what came to be known as “That Great Gretsch Sound.”

Gretsch guitars have always had the reputation of being a classy brand, their guitars are used all around the world by many famous faces. Gretsch have been around since 1883 producing banjos and drums, their knowledge over the decades have now made them some of the most sought-after vintage guitars in the world!

Their guitars are popular in Blues, Jazz and Rockabilly styles of music. Gretsch guitars have got a characteristic crunchy mid-range to their tones thanks to their choice of pickup (the Filtertron) and the Bigsby trem means players often coax smooth, wavy clean and crunch tones from them.

Below we have a review from Nasar over at our Bolton store on a Players Edition Country Gentleman

‘The Gretsch Country Gentleman, an iconic guitar used by the famous George Harrison during the early days of the Beatles. The instantly recognisable tones of the classic numbers like “She Loves You”, “Please Please Me” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand” all live in the fantastic “High Sensitive Filter’tron pickups” this stunning guitar is equipped with!

I think this guitar is an absolutely outstanding addition to anyone’s collection as it has the looks, the sound and most importantly the playability! The gorgeous gold hardware complimented by the beautiful walnut satin finish certainly makes this instrument an instant eye-catcher! It is also an extremely playable guitar as it offers; a nice low action on a comfortable feeling neck, Gotoh Locking Tuners, so it holds its tuning exceptionally well and of course the versatile “Filter’tron” pickups to make this guitar perfect for pretty much any playing style!

Personally, I particularly like the Gretsch Country Gentleman running through the “Top Boost Channel” of the legendary Vox AC30

Ball-valve amplifier, as I am a huge fan of 50’s and 60’s rock n Roll! This fantastic guitar combined with this iconic amplifier gives me the exact sound I am looking for! We currently have the Vox AC30 to try along with a range of Professional Series Gretsch guitars here at Rimmers Music in Bolton!‘
