How To Create A Hybrid Drum Kit

What is a hybrid drum kit?

Technically speaking a hybrid drum kit is using electronics and acoustics together to create an advanced, modern methodology of producing music. Whether you use just a percussion pad or a more in-depth setup, the techniques provide you with numerous possibilities.

Method 1 – Percussion Pads

This is probably the easiest way to add electronics to your acoustic kit – they allow you to add individual elements to your drumming experience, record audio and trigger any other sounds. You can also incorporate additional pads around your drum kits, these could be rubber pads, mesh pads or bar pads – this is another method for triggering sounds. Percussion pads do not require separate drum modules to operate.

Method 2 – Drum Triggers

A trigger pad can easily be added to any drum kit, they simply mount onto the side of acoustic drums without causing an inconvenience to the layout of your current kit.  A trigger pad is great for control of a variety of functions, such as phrase loops, start/stop of backing songs and more.

Method 3 – Sound Modules

The sound module is a fantastic addition to your drum kit -it works to integrate electronic sounds and audio files into your drum kits. The modules are compact and simple to use – providing an easy way to incorporate electronic components to your acoustic kit.  Many drummers find that as you progress further you begin to become more aware of further sounds. A drum module allows for further creativity with an easy to operate function.

Having a hybrid drum kit allows you to produce a sound that has no limits. Hybrids are continually developing, many live performers use them as they provide more versatility and advantages than your typical acoustic kit. Impress your audience and perform a masterpiece.
